WESTCHASE - The woman responsible for enforcing the rules in Westchase fought back tears as she stepped down from her post.
"There's no crying in Westchase," community association president Jim Mills told property manager Roganne Clark at the board's monthly meeting Thursday. Clark will step down on Sept. 1.
Nicole Michael, Clark's sidekick for the past seven years, will step into the role.
"She walks, she works and she follows in the footsteps of a very strong manager," said Jeff Greenacre, owner of Greenacre Properties Inc., Westchase's management company.
Michael, a 29-year-old University of Florida graduate who lives in South Tampa, was 22 when she heard that Westchase needed an assistant property manager. She took the job about the time Clark came on as property manager, creating a bond Michael said will last beyond job titles.
"I don't think I'll ever part ways with Roganne," Michael said.
Clark, who plans to work as a consultant for the Connerton development in Pasco County, will stick around Westchase for about a year helping Michael get adjusted.
"I will be around," Clark said, adding, "She will have to do what I did when I first came here. This is not a property you can learn overnight."
Michael will be responsible for making sure homeowners follow deed restrictions and will manage Westchase's two swim and tennis centers. The soft-spoken redhead said she hopes her approach will mesh well with residents.
"I believe my soft nature does help with dealing with the residents," Michael said. "If we do have an irate resident that I call, I just listen to them and take what they say in stride."
Clark, known for her forthright and strong-willed demeanor, agrees.
"I think Nicole will do a great job. The comments that she's quiet and reserved ..." she said, pausing. "It's pretty tough to work under someone as strong as me."
