TAMPA - Police found a man dead at a south Tampa car wash across from Plant High School this morning.
About 5:30 a.m., a man stopped at a car wash at 2101 S Dale Mabry Highway on his way to work as he does every morning to look for loose change, said Tampa police spokeswoman Laura McElroy. He called 911 when he saw another man on the ground in the parking lot.
McElroy said the victim died of upper body trauma. She said he was there about 2 a.m. washing his pickup truck when someone "ambushed" him. Police found the man's body a few stalls away from where he was washing his truck, McElroy said.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the car wash to see if enhanced images will give them any information. Anyone in the area around 2 a.m. who may have seen something is asked to call Tampa police at (813) 276-3200.
