MOON LAKE - At some point after a brutal beating early Sunday morning, Jeanette Planchard woke up with her "face stuck to the carpet," a Pasco County sheriff's report said.
Blood in her hair had bonded to the rug.
Her boyfriend, 50-year-old Douglas Allen Johnson was bleeding, too. Deputies say she stabbed him during a fight at the home they share at 9944 Gilbert St., prompting him to hurl her into several walls hard enough to break the paneling and knock her out. When she woke up, she ran.
That's when deputies say Johnson shouted "die (expletive) die" and opened fire with a large handgun. The bullets missed. One round tore through a door frame by her head.
Planchard, 39, escaped from the home and called authorities, who arrested Johnson on charges of attempted murder and felony domestic battery. He remained in jail late Monday in lieu of $60,000 bail.
According to a sheriff's report, Johnson was drinking with a friend identified only as "T.C." late Saturday. They got into a fight shortly after midnight Sunday. Johnson then came home and accused Planchard of cheating on him and attacked her, the report said.
"During the confrontation, Jeanette felt physically threatened and stabbed Johnson several times with a kitchen knife," a deputy wrote. "After being thrown into several walls and being knocked unconscious, Jeanette attempted to leave the residence and was shot at by Johnson."
Both Planchard and Johnson were treated for their injuries and released.
Deputies brought Planchard back to the home early Sunday and found "major damage to the walls and numerous areas of blood transfers, spatters and pooling." A bloody gun was found between a mattress and box spring.
Johnson told deputies he did recall Planchard stabbing him, but denied beating her or throwing her around the trailer. The report said he attributed gunpowder residue on his hands to the fact he frequently reloads ammunition.
