INVERNESS - A Tampa man was arrested Wednesday afternoon and accused of using the Internet to solicit sex from an undercover Citrus County sheriff's deputy posing as a 14-year-old girl.
Matthew Lynn Wetherington, 25, was arrested at 2:25 p.m. on charges of computer pornography and transmitting pornography within Florida, the arrest report said. Investigators say Wetherington met the undercover deputy Aug. 25 in a chat room online. The deputy pretended to be a 14-year-old girl. Investigators say Wetherington started a conversation with the deputy and said he was 17. The deputy said Wetherington then showed explicit photographs, asked the deputy sexual questions and described sexual acts he would like to perform, the report said.
Monday , the two chatted again and made plans to meet in Inverness on Tuesday. Investigators say Wetherington gave a description of his vehicle and the clothing he would wear. The next day, Wetherington was arrested at the planned meeting spot. He was carrying four condoms and had handwritten directions to the meeting place in his car, the report said. He was taken to the Citrus County jail. Bail was set at $10,000.
