Monetary donations being collected at the Inverness and Crystal River tax collector's offices are to be forwarded to the Salvation Army. Monetary donations are needed the most to assist in providing the basic necessities of life.

Visit either office: 210 N Apopka Ave., Inverness, or 801 SE U.S. 19, Crystal River. Call 341-6500.

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers asks donors to visit the bloodmobile or donate at either office.

The Inverness office, 220 S Pine St., is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Call 344-5332.

The Salvation Army is accepting cash donations. All funds go directly to the disaster area. No in-kind gifts are being accepted unless they are large corporate donations in bulk.

To donate, call 621-5532. By mail, mark checks "Katrina" and send to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1630, Lecanto, FL 34461. For credit card donations, call toll-free at 1-800-725-2769 or online at www.salvationarmyusa.org

Volunteers can register on the Web site listed above or call Volunteer Florida toll-free at 1-800-354-3571. This organization will coordinate volunteers with the needs in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.

To locate missing family members in the disaster area, go to www.satern.org Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network, which uses amateur radio contacts that function when telephones do not; click on Health and Welfare Information Request and fill in the form.

The United Way has established a Hurricane Katrina Response Fund. To donate by credit card, visit www.citrusunitedway.org and click on "Urgent Need: Hurricane Katrina Response Fund."

Donations by check also are accepted. Mail them to United Way of Citrus County, 5399 W Gulf To Lake Highway, Lecanto, FL 34461-8531.
