CLEARWATER - A 66-year-old Largo man died Sunday after he slammed his motorcycle into the back of a sport utility vehicle and was thrown into the air, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

John F. Garmone, who lived at 9221 98th Ave. N, was not wearing a helmet, troopers said. He had been riding south on McMullen-Booth Road about 9 a.m. Sunday when his Harley-Davidson bike crashed into a Toyota Highlander, which had stopped with other traffic near Sunset Point Road, according to the highway patrol report. The driver of the Toyota, Ronald Mills, 49, of Dover, and his two passengers were not injured.
