Iraq explosion, crash kill two Miami soldiers

The Department of Defense announced that two Miami soldier, Army Staff Sgt. Jude R. Jonaus, 27, and Army Sgt. Franklin R. Vilorio, 26, were killed Tuesday in Baghdad, Iraq, when their vehicle rolled over after striking an explosive.

Both were assigned to the Brigade Troops Battalion, Division Support Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

As of Thursday, at least 1,896 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 1,470 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers. The figures include five military civilians.
