CLEARWATER - Behind a consistent passing game and running back Ron Harris, Clearwater Central Catholic punished Lake Highland, keeping the visitors' defense on the field much of the night.
Andrew Nowels threw for two first-half touchdowns to put the Marauders up 14-0. Harris broke the 100 mark in the first half, rushing 15 times for 134 yards.
The defense rattled Lake Highland's offense, which was shut out until late in the game. Once Lake Highland implemented a rushing offense with several traps, it finally was able to move the ball.
PLAY OF THE GAME: CCC was pushed to its end zone and faced third and 23. Harris took the handoff and broke to the left. He broke free from two defenders, sprinted up the sideline. He stepped out at the Lake Highland 17.
PLAYERS OF THE GAME: Harris' ability to find openings was largely due to Nowels, who hit on several key passes, including the two touchdowns to Colin McCarthy. The trio seemed to find a way to get first downs most of the evening.
KEY STATISTIC: CCC had 14 first downs, all at crucial times, keeping Lake Highland's defense on the field.
