Mike Mahoney and Allen Posey, 56, check a second-story balcony in the Gentilly section of New Orleans on Friday. The two are volunteer rescuers who have been driving into the area from Baton Rouge each day. The survival items on the balcony drew their attention, although the people had been rescued the house had not been marked as vacant.
