Gray is taking over for Hadsock as top runner on Hernando team

Anna Gray provided the leadership Saturday.
The Hernando junior ran 21:28 to finish sixth in the girls race of the ninth annual Land O'Lakes Invitational at Crews Lake Park.
Gray is taking over for Leela Hadsock . She graduated in June and now is running for the University of Tampa. Gray's efforts helped spur the Leopards to third in a meet won by Lecanto.
Emi Stephens was the No.2 Hernando runner, placing ninth in 21:40. Senior Danielle Coopman was 19th, 22:45; Erica Roessler , 31st, 23:16; and Kaitlynn Royal , 69th, 26:08.
"This was Emi Stephens very first race ever," coach Erin Sullivan said. "I'm excited about the results. We had a good week of practice, so I am very pleased."
Girls
CENTRAL: Elizabeth McGeehan was the top runner for Central, as the Bears finished ninth at the Gator Invitational. She ran 23:09.
The Bears trailing were Jaime McCarter , 30th, 23:15. Michelle Smyly , 61st, 25:45; Jennifer Mihok , 68th, 26:07; and Ashley Tombrink , 77th, 26:39.
"We're expecting improvement," coach Erin Courtney said. "This is just a rebuilding year."
SPRINGSTEAD: Freshman Yolanda Lopes was a little tired after running a 3.1-mile course for the first time. She finished 18th in 22:41 at Land O'Lakes.
"She was second through the mile," coach Jan Zadoorian said. "She was fourth at a mile and a half. She has not run three miles before. She stopped. We had to give her water. She finished pretty strong. I am very pleased."
Following for the Eagles were Brittani Morrissey , 72nd, 26:18; Gabrielle DeCristofaro , 73rd, 26:18; Rachel Flynn , 74th, 26:19; and Casey Courtney , 97th, 29:40.
NATURE COAST: The team finished 16th at the Gator Invitational. Cheltsie Spencer was 94th in 28:46 time.
Right behind were Lilly Andrade , 28:56; Jaqueline Barrett , 108th, 34:51; Hope Totino , 109th, 34:52; and Jasmine O'Neill , 112th, 43:16.
"Our girls did really well," coach Kristin Peeples said. "Three scored personal bests.I couldn't believe how well they did."
Boys
HERNANDO: "We did awesome all around," assistant coach Bret Chatman said after the Leopards won their first meet of the season.
Sparking Hernando werwe Ben Martucci , second, 16:40; Jake Bess , 17:08; Andrew Martucci , 12th, 17:44; Thomas Mountain , 30th, 18:32; and Tyler Baldwin , 31st, 18:37.
CENTRAL: Josh Dubois finished 45th overall (19:14) at Crews Lake Park. Kyle Smith was 53rd with a time of 19:30. Trailing were Ben Kirchman . 54th 19:30; Kelly Bowens , 82nd, 20:26; and Brad Henderson , 97th, 21:17.
SPRINGSTEAD: Springstead finished 15th out of 17 teams. Michael Costanzo was 47th in 19:16.
NATURE COAST TECH: "David Garton (109th, 22:34) ran really well today," coach Kristin Peeples said.
