Manatee Lanes to help with Katrina relief

Manatee Lanes is offering a way for bowlers to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The Crystal River center will have a Hurricane Katrina Relief Bowling Benefit at 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday. Proceeds from the event, including a ball raffle and lane sponsorships, will be donated to the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross. Lanes and shoes can be rented for $15 per hour.

There also will be red-pin competition with prizes. A ball and bag raffle is planned. Cash donations will be accepted. Lane sponsorships are available for $100 per lane. Checks should be payable to The Salvation Army or The American Red Cross.

The Crystal Manatee Mixed League is looking for individuals and teams of four. For information, call Ed Hudnet , 746-9020.

PARKVIEW LANES: Eddie Stromberg received $36 for winning the 8-pin Strike-A-Mania. Stromberg won a game, as did Wes Foley and Mary Morrow . Buck Morrow had two second-place finishes en route to taking the series. Anthony Nott had the other second. The Strike-A-Mania competition is scheduled for every Saturday. Players must be signed in by 6:30 p.m. The cost is $8 per person.

The next Rizzo's Pizza Golfbowl is set for Sunday. It starts with 9 a.m. golf at Twisted Oaks Golf Club. The four-person teams then move to Parkview Lanes for three games of best-frame bowling. The event costs $41 per person.

The Mixed Doubles No-Tap Tournament is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sept.25. The format is three games. The first will be seven-pin. The second game will be eight-pin, and the third game will be nine-pin. The money game will consist of eight-pin. Non-qualifiers bowl a fourth game for singles cash. The entry fee is $25 per team, and reservations are required by Sept.23.

The Parkview Seniors League offers competition for four-person mixed teams and individuals. For information, call Leo Lomupo , 861-2593; or the center, 489-6933.

The next session of the Holder Hotshots League has a meeting tonight at 7.

The four-person league will bowl on Thursdays at 7, and the cost is $10 per person per week. Individuals and teams must make reservations. For information, call Peggy Nevels , 465-0757; or the center, 489-6933.

MARINER LANES: The center is looking for players for its fall leagues. There are openings for men, women, children or couples. For information, call Sue Mitchell , (352) 683-7576.
