LOCAL HEROES: The Bloomingdale Classics have won the First Pitch AAU Tournament for Little League baseball players, ages 11 and older. Their 9-1 victory over the Central Florida Silver Knights capped the team's undefeated run through the tournament, held Sept. 2-4 at Tampa's Ed Radice Park. Players included Michael Paddock, Jamal Wilson, Connor Vice, Nathan Bancroft, Alex Kerr, Dayne Wade, Richard Martin, Ryan Tauscher, Jake Gagain, Brandon Cohen, Michael Farley, and Nino Biondolillo. Richard Martin managed the team. Doug Tauscher, Brant Wade and Jim Kerr were coaches.

ADULT FLAG FOOTBALL: After a month of drumming up support, the county's Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department is ready to launch a flag football league. Teams can vary from four to eight members, with players at least 18 years old. Games start at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. Sept. 23 at Gardenville Recreation Center, 6215 Symmes Road, Gibsonton. The $265 cost per team covers equipment, referees and insurance through the 10-week season. Call 744-5595.

GOLF TOURNAMENT: The American Legion Post 148 is hosting a golf tournament Oct. 9 to raise funds for the organization's many causes. Check-in is at 7:30 p.m. at Apollo Beach Golf Club, 801 Golf and Sea Blvd., Apollo Beach. A four-man best ball scramble starts simultaneously on all 18 holes at 8 a.m., and players are eligible for gift certificates and other prizes. The $45 entry fee includes a golf cart, lunch, greens fees and refreshments. The Legion is looking for hole sponsors at $50 per hole, and donations for door prizes.
