Cyrano, The Musical has performances today through Sunday at Playhouse 19 community theater, 865 U.S. 19, Crystal River. The show runs until Sept. 25. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays; 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students. Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. FREE DANCE will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Crystal River Mall food court. Activities are planned throughout the afternoon, including dance contests with prizes for the winners and dance exhibitions. The dance is sponsored by the Spirit of Citrus Dancers. LAUGHS: Comedian Peter Sasso will headline at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Giggles comedy club at the Park Inn Hotel, 4076 S Suncoast Blvd. (U.S. 19) in Homosassa. The featured performer will be Roy Haber. Tickets are $7. Doors open for dinner at 7:30. Call (352) 628-4311 for information.

CALLING ALL CARVERS: The Nature Coast Carving Club meets at noon Mondays at the Crystal River Moose Club and at 1 p.m. Tuesdays at the East Citrus Community Center on State Road 44 E, Inverness. The club also holds a business meeting at 10 a.m. the first Friday of each month at the Lakes Region Library, Druid Road, Inverness. The meeting also features a demonstration.

ARTISTS who have enough two- or three-dimensional works for an exhibit are welcome at the Central Florida Community College Citrus County Campus. The college is offering exhibit spaces in September, October, February and March. Stipends are provided. Students and community members with enough work to fill a one-person exhibit are invited to participate. Pedestals are available for sculptures and ceramics. The exhibits will be displayed in Building 2. Interested artists should send a letter and photos or slides of works to Michele Wirt, CFCC Citrus Campus, 3800 S Lecanto Highway, Lecanto, FL 34464. THE CITRUS COMMUNITY BAND is rehearsing at 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the band room at Lecanto High under the direction of Don Rowe and Nancy Gordon. The 50 piece band, which has openings in all sections at this time, is a concert band that performs throughout the county for community events. Concerts are planned at the Beverly Hills rec center, the Crystal River Mall, the New England Club and several veterans' functions. Repertoire includes marches, Broadway show tunes, swing jazz and classical. Anyone wishing to have the band play at one of their events or meetings, or anyone hoping to dust off their high school instrument and join in for the first time should call John Durbin at 795-1863.

LOOK AHEAD

CHRISTMAS IN SEPTEMBER, the annual craft show presented by the Pilot Club of Crystal River, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m Sept. 24 at the National Guard Armory, U.S. 19 and Venable Street, Crystal River. For information, call B.J. Lesbirel, 795-5223 or Kathy Grazio, 527-8679.

CITRUS SPRINGS CHORUS resumes rehearsals at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 29 in the Citrus Springs Community Center. New members are welcome on all parts through the end of October. The chorus will present a holiday concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 including ensembles, full chorus numbers and solos. The chorus hopes to travel to an area skilled nursing facility for its dress rehearsal. This vocal group is open to residents of all communities. There is no audition. The chorus is directed by Nancy Gordon, who has over 30 years experience in music education and church music,and is co-director of the Citrus Concert Band. THE CENTRAL FLORIDA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA will present Symphonic Celebration with pianist Lyle Indergaard at 8 p.m. Oct. 15 and 3 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Central Florida Community College Fine Arts Auditorium.

COOTERFEST will be Oct. 28 to 30 in Inverness. Festivities include cooter races, a pedal tractor pull, human races, bicycle rides, a barbecue cookoff, a motorcycle run, historical tours, a spooky Cooterween celebration and several other activities. Ben Jones, who played Cooter Davenport on The Dukes of Hazzard television series, will sign autographs that Friday and will perform with his band at the Great American Cooter Blast event that Saturday. Jones performed at the first festival, with much fanfare. Jones will also bring the General Lee, the show's famous Dixie-playing car.

THE LADIES AUXILLIARY of the West Citrus Elks is accepting applications for the annual artsand crafts show to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 5 at the West Citrus Elks Lodge on W Grover Cleveland Boulevard in Homosassa. JAZZ UP DUNNELLON features food and music in an outdoors setting from 5 to 10 p.m. Oct. 8. The food is Cajun and Creole, available from street vendors. Music will be jazz and blues. Entertainers include Joe Michel Quintet; Valerie Levy; Nino Castenada; Rick Dahlinger Trio; Spectacular Gimmicks; Ocalaco; Liz Pennock & Dr. Blues. Ocala Carriage and Tours will offer rides along the entertainment route. Capt. Mike's Lazy River Cruises will have 45 minute river trips on the hour from 3 to 6 p.m. at $10 per person. Motorcycles and antique and classic carswill be on display. Use Dunnellon Middle School off Cedar Street CR 40 for parking and ride the free shuttle to the library. The Dunnellon Area Chamber of Commerce sells $1 wristbands that are good for food discounts. QUICK TRIPS ON THE WING: The Chinsegut Nature Center will host a free butterfly workshop with biologist Marc Minno from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, north of Brooksville.
