Freedom (3-0) at Plant (1-1)
LAST MEETING: None
THE SKINNY: Homecoming at Plant and that means the Panthers are on the prowl. Freedom has turned heads with its big start. 4-0 and those heads start to turn Exorcist-style.
Purks: Plant Niebuhr: Plant
Leto (0-2) at Alonso (1-1)
2004 MEETING: Alonso 17, Leto 14
THE SKINNY: Leto's still sputtering out of the gates (scoreless in two games) and needs a win tonight to avoid what looks to be an 0-5 start as Robinson and Jefferson loom.
Purks: Alonso Niebuhr: Alonso
Armwood (2-1) at Jefferson (3-0), 1470-AM
2004 MEETING: Armwood 54, Jefferson 7
THE SKINNY: The past four times these teams played, Armwood outscored the Dragons 113-17. That barely makes up for the two meetings before that when Jefferson beat the Hawks 103-0. No teams want to beat each other more than these.
Purks: Jefferson Niebuhr: Armwood
Bloomingdale (1-1) at Durant (0-3)
2004 MEETING: Durant 51, Bloomingdale 14
THE SKINNY: 1998: The last time Durant started a season 0-4. 1996: The last time Bloomingdale started a season 2-1. Somebody's really long streak is about to be broken.
Purks: Bloomingdale Niebuhr: Durant
King (0-3) at Brandon (1-2)
2002 MEETING: Brandon 14, King 2
THE SKINNY: Survivor pool pick of the week: Brandon.
Purks: Brandon Niebuhr: Brandon
East Bay (2-1) at Chamberlain (1-2)
2004 MEETING: East Bay 41, Chamberlain 35
THE SKINNY: East Bay is the Chick-fil-A of football: little variation, great results. You know what you're going to get and the Indians rarely give you anything different. A chance for Chamberlain's defense to make a statement.
Purks: East Bay Niebuhr: Chamberlain
Gaither (2-0) at Mitchell (2-1)
LAST MEETING: None
THE SKINNY: Mitchell's first foray against a Hillsborough County opponent. Newsflash: It's a little different than playing someone from Hernando.
Purks: Gaither Niebuhr: Gaither
Hillsborough (3-0) at Newsome (1-2)
LAST MEETING: None
THE SKINNY: One of the few tidbits of good news for Newsome in this instance is that this is a home game and the Wolves will save on gas.
Purks: Hillsborough Niebuhr: Hillsborough
Tampa Bay Tech (0-3) at Middleton (2-1)
LAST MEETING: None
THE SKINNY: Middleton continues to gain steam as it heads into district competition. Tech still trying to right its ship.
Purks: Middleton Niebuhr: Middleton
Plant City (1-2) at Lake Gibson (0-2)
1994 MEETING: PC 34, Lake Gibson 6
THE SKINNY: Lake Gibson appears to be down a little from its typical playoff form. The Raiders should take full advantage.
Purks: Lake Gibson Niebuhr: Plant City
Sickles (0-3) at Jesuit (3-0)
LAST MEETING: None
THE SKINNY: Jesuit's Anthony Allen (17 rushes, five TDs, 131 yards) might have set the world rushing record last week if he had played more than two quarters. Look for lots of him tonight. In the first half at least.
Purks: Jesuit Niebuhr: Jesuit
Wharton (2-1) at Wesley Chapel (1-2)
LAST MEETING: None
THE SKINNY: Wesley Chapel's record against Hillsborough County teams is 2-3. Tomorrow it will be 2-4.
Purks: Wharton Niebuhr: Wharton
Lake Placid (1-1) at Tampa Catholic (2-1)
1994 MEETING: TC 40, Lake Placid 15
THE SKINNY: Upon further review, Lake Placid does indeed still have a football team. Hmmmm. All of a sudden, so does TC. The Crusaders go to 3-1 tonight.
Purks: TC Niebuhr: TC
Bell (0-2) at Temple Heights (0-2)
2004 MEETING: Bell 18, Temple Heights 0
THE SKINNY: This is turning into a nice little rivalry and always seems to be a decently played game decided by one or two plays. Bring some sunscreen and enjoy a hot dog.
Purks: Bell Niebuhr: Temple Heights
Cambridge (2-0) at Lakeland Evangel (0-2)
LAST MEETING: None
THE SKINNY: Evangel lost just 14-0 to Auburndale. That means trouble for the Lancers.
Purks: Evangel Niebuhr: Evangel
Indian Rocks Christian (1-2) at Tampa Baptist (1-2)
LAST MEETING: None
THE SKINNY: The Rams win this and people will stand and take notice. Then they'll sit again.
Purks: Rocks Niebuhr: Tampa Baptist
FOR THE SEASON
Purks: 15-1 last week, 38-10 overall
Niebuhr: 13-3 last week, 34-14 overall
