- Jim Wooten, senior correspondent for Nightline and author of We Are All the Same, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hyatt Sarasota, 1000 Boulevard of the Arts. - The 13th Annual St. Petersburg Times Festival of Reading will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 29 at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. Festival organizers are seeking corporate partners for sponsorships, booksellers, self-published authors and vendors of literacy-related merchandise, as well as volunteers. - On Sept. 8, six authors were shortlisted for the 2005 Man Booker Prize for Fiction, the United Kingdom's best-known literary award. They are: John Banville (The Sea), Julian Barnes (Arthur & George), Sebastian Barry (A Long Long Way), Kazuo Ishiguro (Never Let Me Go), Ali Smith (The Accidental) and Zadie Smith (On Beauty). The winner will be announced Oct. 10.
- The shortlist for the 2005 Lettre Ulysses Award, an international award for books of literary reportage, includes: Baghdad Burning: A Girl Blog from Iraq by Anonymous; Of Wars: Letters to Friends by Carolin Emcke; Scribbling the Cat: Travels with an African Soldier by Alexandra Fuller; A Season in Mecca: Account of a Pilgrimage by Abdellah Hammoudi; The Outlaw Sea: A World of Freedom, Chaos, and Crime by William Langewiesche; Maximum City: Bombay Lost And Found by Suketu Mehta; and Death in the Little Pentagon: The Secret Killing Fields of the Peruvian Army by Ricardo Uceda. The winner will be announced Oct. 15.
