Gator outdistances the field

LECANTO - Steven Bell is getting used to this.

The Land O'Lakes senior runner won his second straight race, taking the boys division at the Lecanto Invitational Saturday.

Bell won in 16:25.5, beating Hernando High's Ben Martucci for the second straight week. Martucci, a junior, finished in 16:33. Bell cut his time by 13 seconds.

"Martucci pushed me toward the end," Bell said.

Buchholz's Natalie Doss won the girls race in 19:28. Lecanto's Tara Haddock finished 10th in 20:37.

Doss' team won the girls title with 29 points. Lecanto's girls were fourth with 156.

The Buchholz boys won with 55 points. Land O'Lakes was second with 112, Hernando fourth with 131 and Crystal River fifth with 139.
