Clients' turnover is boon to First Advantage

By KRIS HUNDLEY
Published September 19, 2005

First Advantage Corp. of St. Petersburg plays a serious role providing companies with intensive background checks of would-be employees.

But its chief executive, John Long, is more than willing to make fun of the idiosyncrasies of the business, as he demonstrated at last week's annual meeting.

"Retail is high turnover," he said at one point. "And the next best thing to a hiring is a firing."

Long added that trucking is another industry that has proved to be a gold mine for First Advantage's services.

"These guys get drunk or go someplace else for a nickel more," Long said, nearly beside himself with joy about how a high attrition rate in trucking translates into higher revenues for First Advantage. "I love these guys!"
