Southern California's run at No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 reached a record-breaking level and Oklahoma, the team USC replaced in the top spot almost two years ago, was unranked for the first time since 1999.

With the Trojans top ranked in the poll released Sunday, USC has been No. 1 for 22 straight polls, besting the record set by Miami from 2001-02.

The Trojans took over the top spot Dec. 7, 2003, after then-No. 1 Oklahoma lost the Big 12 title game to Kansas State.

USC improved to 2-0 Saturday night with a 70-17 win over Arkansas at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush and USC have scored 133 points.

The 70 points are the most USC has scored in a game since Nov. 7, 1970, when it beat Washington State 70-33. Arkansas hadn't allowed 70 since Oct. 19, 1918, when it lost to Oklahoma 103-0. USC's 736 yards of total offense are the most against Arkansas. The record was 613 by Houston in 1990.

CLEMSON: Tight end Cole Downer had his spleen removed just hours after he was injured catching a 6-yard pass in the fourth quarter against Miami Saturday. He will likely miss the rest of the season.

GEORGIA TECH: Quarterback Reggie Ball was diagnosed with viral meningitis and it's not known if he'll be able to play in Saturday's crucial ACC game against unbeaten Virginia Tech. Ball was expected to remain hospitalized a second night as a precaution. He became ill Friday and was hospitalized the next morning.

Late Saturday

PURDUE 31, ARIZONA 24: Jerod Void carried 18 times for 107 yards, scored three touchdowns and recovered a muffed punt return to help the Boilermakers hold off host Arizona.

ARIZONA ST. 52, NORTHWESTERN 21: Sam Keller passed for four touchdowns and freshman Keegan Herring ran for 197 yards and scored twice for the host Sun Devils. Keller was 20-of-31 for 409 yards and has thrown for 1,448 yards and 15 TDs in four career starts.

OREGON 37, FRESNO ST. 34: Kellen Clemens threw for 332 yards and four touchdowns to lead a balanced Oregon attack in the upset of the then-No. 23 Bulldogs.

UC DAVIS 20, STANFORD 17: Jon Grant capped a 72-yard march with a 3-yard pass with eight seconds left to spoil coach Walt Harris' home debut. The Aggies rallied from a 17-0 deficit to become the first non-Division I-A team to beat Stanford.
