Father accidentally runs over, kills son, 1

By Times Staff Writer

WIMAUMA - A 1-year-old boy died Wednesday after his father unknowingly backed over him in a pickup truck, the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office reported.

After going shopping, the Williams family had returned to their Carlton Lake Road mobile home. The three Williams children - ages 6, 2 and 1 - played outside while their mother went inside. Their father, Billy Jack Williams, 29, went to his 1986 pickup and backed it up to a flatbed trailer, where he carried equipment he planned to return to his father.

But Williams didn't know his son, Samuel Elsworth Williams, was behind the truck, Hillsborough sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Williams will not face any charges, she said.
