Note this: On Friday nights jazz, New Age music is free

SEMINOLE - Jazz and New Age music will be performed by Dagari at Friday's Music in the Park on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m at Seminole City Park, 7464 Ridge Road. The concert is sponsored by Waste Management of Pinellas. The free evening live music concerts will be held on four consecutive Friday nights through Oct. 14. Each concert features a different genre of music. Future concerts include:

Sept. 30 - Motown tribute by Uptown Review; presented by Keller Williams Gulf Coast Realty.

Oct. 7 - Oldies rock 'n' roll by Ocean Road Band; presented by Lake Seminole Square.

Oct. 14 - Swing and jazz by Lounge Cat; presented by Seminole Lake Rotary Club.

Attendees should bring blankets or chairs to sit on. Food and beverages will be available for sale. Alcoholic beverages and glass containers are not permitted in the park. For more information, call Steve Malla, recreation program coordinator, at 391-8345.

Seminole residents are invited to attend a meeting of Pinellas Trails Inc. at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 28 in Room "A" of the new Largo Library, 120 Central Park Drive. Future monthly meetings are scheduled for Oct. 26 and Nov. 30. Meetings are open to all Pinellas County residents interested in serving on the Pinellas Trail Board, on one of its committees, or helping out at special events. Committees include: events, amenities, fundraising, communications/marketing/public relations, and "Neighborhood Pride in Trail." For more information, call Bert Valery at 517-8888.

The Pinellas County Extension is offering a free class, Manage Your Money, Build Your Wealth, on Tuesdays, Sept. 27, Oct. 4 and 11, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Stavros Institute, Aegon Room, 12090 Starkey Road. The class will provide information on how to set goals, increase savings, reduce debt, make wise use of loans and credit and more. Advance registration is required; participants must attend all three sessions. For more information, call the extension at 582-2113.

The Kiwanis club of Seminole needs crafters, entertainers and business exhibitors for its fall festival Oct. 22 and 23. For more information, call 394-2582.

The Seminole Chamber of Commerce is seeking sponsors and players for its four-person scramble golf tournament scheduled for Oct. 20 at the Seminole Lake Country Club. Entries cost $100 per person, which covers greens fee, cart, dinner and a chance for prizes. Freedom Square Retirement Community is the premier sponsor. Golf holes marketing signs may be purchased at $50 for one sign or $100 for three signs.

The chamber is also accepting signups for the Multi-Chamber Expo that will be held at the Seminole Mall Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost for chamber members is $150 and $175 for nonmembers.

Entries for the "Bright For Your Eyes" evening holiday parade, scheduled for Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m., are being accepted at the Seminole Chamber office, 8400 113th St. N. Cost is $25.

The Seminole Recreation Complex, 9100 113th St. N, offers several activities this month:

Belleview Biltmore Hotel Tour: Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Guests will tour the historic hotel built near the turn of the century. Participants also will travel to Dunedin for lunch and browse the quaint shops on old Main Street. Cost is $22 a person. Recreation card required to participate. In October, the recreation department will sponsor a trip to Sarasota's Bavarian Oktoberfest. Space is limited for all trips, so register early.

Sports with Shorts: For seniors interested in playing volleyball, badminton or pickleball. Volleyball is played on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Badminton is available on Mondays from 9 to 11 a.m. Pickleball, a sport that combines tennis, pingpong and racquetball, will be played on Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. All sports programs are free, but require a recreation card.

The Seminole Library sponsors classic movie matinees on Thursdays, beginning at 2 p.m. The movie events include free popcorn and soft drinks. This week's movie is You Can't Take It With You; Sept. 29's is Born Yesterday.

Other special library events in September include:

We Love Dogs!, fun dog stories, trivia, games and more; Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Register in the youth services department.

The GFWC Seminole Junior Woman's Club will hold its annual fall social for prospective members and ladies interested in the club at the Seminole Recreation Center, 9100 113th St., Thursday at 7 p.m. The event will feature a speaker from a Christmas Project Need recipient school. The party is open to anyone interested in volunteering to help children and families in the community. For more information, call 398-0558.
