Man gets 10 years for Burger King incident

By Times Staff Writer
Published September 22, 2005

LARGO - A 34-year-old man who barricaded himself inside a Largo Burger King with a gun this summer was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison.

Daniel Crowley, whose last known address is in Belleair Bluffs, was charged with multiple crimes in July after he tried to confront his roommate at the Burger King. The two had argued over money. After employees locked the door, Crowley broke the restaurant's window with a .45-caliber pistol and went inside. His roommate and other workers called police and fled the restaurant. When police arrived, Crowley barricaded himself in an office, fired his gun and threatened that officers would have to shoot him. But after speaking with a police negotiator more than an hour, he put the gun down and came out. Crowley, who has an extensive criminal record, was charged with armed burglary, aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. He pleaded guilty to the charges Wednesday. Pinellas-Pasco Judge Richard Luce sentenced him to a minimum mandatory 10 years in prison.
