Police say young man shot teen in drug deal

By Times Staff Writer

LARGO - A 19-year-old man accused of shooting a teenager last week during a drug deal has been arrested, police said.

Jason Christopher Daiuto, who faces charges of aggravated battery and attempted armed burglary, was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Monday. He remained there Wednesday in lieu of $50,000 bail. According to Largo police, Daiuto met a 17-year-old boy outside a quadruplex on 141 Fulton St. NE on Sept. 12 to sell the teen marijuana. Instead, Daiuto pulled a gun and demanded the victim's money. When the victim insisted he had no cash, Daiuto shot him once in the leg, police said. Daiuto, whose juvenile record includes charges of grand theft and burglary, then ran away, they said. The victim limped to his car, where two friends were waiting, and was taken to the hospital.
