35 applicants vie for new judgeships
A commission will screen the applicants and submit three to six nominees for each post to Gov. Jeb Bush.

Thirty-three attorneys and two county judges have applied for the latest round of new judgeships in the 6th Judicial Circuit, which includes Pasco and Pinellas counties.
The circuit's Judicial Nominating Commission will screen the applicants and then submit three to six nominees for each position to Gov. Jeb Bush for his consideration. The interview date has not been set, said Ron Stuart, spokesman for the circuit.
The applicants for the Pasco County judgeship are Robert Scott Andringa, Kenneth V. Compton, Philip Michael Cohen, Frank I. Grey II, Michael Eric Rosario and Anne Wansboro.
The applicants for the two circuit positions are William B. Bennett, George H. Brown, Pinellas County Judge Shawn Crane, Thane Covert, Jack Day, Joseph Flannery, Walt Fullerton, Mary Handsel, Jack Hellinger, George Jirotka, Bruce Johnson, Nathaniel Kidder, Le Anne Carol Lake, Glenn Martin, Richard Pearse, Charles Samaha, Walter Schafer, Pat Siracusa, John Smitten, Sheila Turner and Pinellas County Judge Dorothy Vaccaro.
The following lawyers applied for both the county and circuit positions: Nancy McClain Alfonso, Patricia A. Carroll, Paul E. Firmani, Angela Hoogeveen, Randall J. Love, Beverly Plummer, Bruce Przepis and Heather Stathopoulos.
All three positions were created this year by the Florida Legislature. The new judges will take office Jan. 3.
