LAND O'LAKES - A 35-year-old Tampa man was charged with aggravated battery Tuesday and accused of slashing a woman with a knife.

Rogelio Mendieta of 8710 Gardner Road was booked into the Pasco County jail where he was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail. According to a Pasco Sheriff's Office report, Mendieta gave the woman, who was not identified, a ride to 21310 Mckaig Lane in Land O'Lakes on Monday afternoon. At about 1:48 p.m. the two began to argue, the report said, and Mendieta grabbed the woman's hair and pulled her off a bed. Then he armed himself with a knife, the report said, and cut the woman several times. Mendieta kept her from calling 911, the report said, and their struggle continued outside. The woman called for help from a neighbor's house.
