NEWSMAKERS
Flammer Ford of Spring Hill is offering juniors and seniors an incentive to strive for higher grades and perfect attendance. For the first three marking periods, each student who gets an A or has perfect attendance will get two entry forms. Each student who gets a B will get one entry form. The forms will be put in a giant hopper, and at the end of the third marking period, 15 finalists will be drawn. One of those 15 will then be drawn to win a 2006 Ford Mustang, donated by Flammer Ford. Students should go to Flammer Ford on U.S. 19 with their report cards to fill out their entry forms. The winner must be present to win, and will be responsible for any taxes, title and registration fees and license plate. All the students' information will be shredded after the contest.
State Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, announces the 12th annual legislative essay contest. Fasano will appoint up to four high school students to each serve one week in Tallahassee during the 2006 legislative session as a page in the state Senate.
Students between ages 15 and 18 who are in public, private or home school programs are eligible to participate in the contest. To enter, students must submit an essay of at least 100 words answering the question: "If you could create a law pertaining to the criminal justice system in Florida, what would it be and why?"
All entries must be received by Fasano's district office no later than 5 p.m. on Oct. 14 at 8217 Massachusetts Ave., New Port Richey 34653. For more information, call Greg Giordano at (727) 848-5885 or toll-free at 1-800-948-5885.
