Plant City man charged with possessing child porn

TAMPA - A Plant City man who operates a video game store in Temple Terrace has been charged with 33 counts of possession of child pornography.

Temple Terrace police said the investigation began on June 27, 2004, when one of the operators of Megaplay Video Game called police after finding pictures and videos of child pornography on a computer at work.

The business, now closed, was owned by Steven L. Peterson, 33, of 2301 Bruton Road, who was arrested on a warrant by Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies at 6:25 a.m. Thursday at his home, Temple Terrace police said.

Police seized the computer, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement obtained a search warrant to investigate the computer's files. Officials analyzed 52,000 video and image files and determined that 24 video clips and nine still images were illegal, police said.

Peterson was booked into the Hillsborough County jail, where he remained Thursday evening on $66,000 bail.
