BROOKSVILLE - City Council members Wednesday passed a slightly reduced property tax rate to pay for a more than $7.5-million general fund budget.
The 2005-06 millage rate is 7.5 per $1,000 of assessed property value, a reduction from the current rate of 7.87.
At 7.5, a homeowner with a $100,000 home, with the standard homestead exemption, would pay $562.50 in taxes. That is $27.75 less than the current rate. Council member Frankie Burnett was absent from Wednesday's meeting; the remaining council members passed the new rate with a 4-0 vote.
