Mother, son remain hospitalized

DADE CITY - A 97-year-old woman and her 58-year-old son who were hospitalized for what authorities call a failed double-suicide attempt were both reported in serious condition Friday.

The man's condition was upgraded from critical, according to Pasco Regional Medical Center. The Pasco Sheriff's Office said both tried to overdose Thursday on an unknown drug. Neighbors told deputies they found the two unconscious at their home about 9 a.m. Thursday. They found the man bleeding from the arm, lying on the floor of his kitchen, and put him in bed.

The neighbors repeatedly checked on them because of their medical conditions, but after both failed to wake up around 1:30 p.m., they called for help. Paramedics took both to a hospital, while Pasco sheriff's deputies discovered a suicide note.
