CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

The ballroom at the Plantation Inn & Golf Resort was packed Sept. 20 for the annual Industry Appreciation Week luncheon. The Citrus County Economic Development Council and the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce sponsor Industry Appreciation Week; Progress Energy and CLM Workforce Connection sponsored the lunch.

Council president Jack Reynolds, from Homosassa Springs Bank, welcomed the guests. The Rev. Lloyd Bertine, senior pastor at Gulf to Lake Baptist Church, offered the invocation.

As guests enjoyed chicken, rice and vegetables for lunch, council executive director Brett Wattles introduced the main speaker, Chris Moling of Direct Response Communications.

Chet Cole, executive director of the Key Training Center, was named Person of the Year. All About Craft Creations and Gift Shop of Homosassa was honored as the Micro Loan Recipient of the Year. Publix was named Outstanding Employer or Corporate Citizen, and Floral City Airboats was named Outstanding Small Business with fewer than 20 employees.

James Holder, president of the Chamber of Commerce, offered the closing remarks.

TOPS FL743 met Sept. 21 at the Hernando Civic Center, at 3848 Parsons Point Road, Hernando.

Leader Sylvia Lovelace called the meeting to order at 9 a.m. They sang Write It Down and members recited the TOPS pledge and KOPS recited the KOPS Creed.

There were 13 members present. The TOPS of the Week was Janet Murray. The KOPS of the Week was Helen Merlino. Both received strawberries.

Guest are welcome. Weigh-in is from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Meetings begin at 9 a.m. For information, call Sylvia at 637-6553 or Janet at 489-2747.

Twenty-six members weighed in at TOPS Chapter FL387, Beverly Hills on Sept. 19. The best losers were Arlene Delisle, Millie Meyer and Topsy O'Sullivan with 11/2-pound losses. The best Keep Off Pounds Sensibly loser was Helen Wright with a 11/2-pound loss. The jackpot of $2.15 was donated to the State Recognition Day fund.

Marilyn Miller, Edna Horton and Cheryl Miller were winners in the Royal Flush game, each winning $5. Millie Meyer presented a program on sweet potatoes and yams.

Members are looking forward to Rally Day on Nov. 5 in Gainesville. This year's theme is Solve the Puzzle with TOPS. A fundraiser will be held during the flea market sponsored by the Beverly Hills Recreation Association on Oct. 29. The chapter rented three tables and will offer many items for sale, and the chance to win one of three gift baskets: kitchen, bath or Italian. The chapter will also take part in the Kiwanis Christmas Parade on Dec. 3.

The chapter meets each Monday with weigh-ins at 3 p.m. and a business meeting and program from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Beverly Hills Community Building, One Civic Circle. Persons interested in visiting this weight loss support group may do so one time before joining.

RECREATION

The Sugarmill Woods Ladies Golf Association 18-holers played a Scramble Tournament on Sept. 21. The results were:

First place (73): Mary Ellen McCoy, Jill Witcliff, Jean Baker, Catherine Holden.

Second place (76, three-way tie): Margaret Morton, Dorothy Wallace, Arlene Stohrer, Kathy Hettrich and June Klingensmith, Miriam Fleming, Louise Schmid, Gloria Megos and Maureen Carr, Anne Broadbent, Donna Grotjahn, Dorothy McCann.

Fifth place (77): Joyce Engelbrecht, Inge Weeks, Ellen Jones, Carol Merker.

Congratulations to Donna Grotjahn who scored a hole-in-one during the tournament.

On Sept. 14, members of the Sugarmill Woods Ladies Golf Swingers opened their new season. They played a "Beat the Board" scramble tournament. The target team score was 44, carded by Peg Murphy, Maggie Grimm, Ginger Bunner and Louise Ullman.

The following teams were victorious in beating the board total:
