Family fishing day is Saturday

SEMINOLE - Family Fun Fishing Day will be held Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m. at Taylor Park. The event is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Seminole Breakfast, in partnership with Pinellas County Parks and Recreation and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Fishing poles and bait will be provided for children. Participants may also bring their own fishing pole. The park is at 1100 Eighth Ave. SW, Largo. How eminent domain can be used to further economic development will be discussed by attorney Brigham Moore at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Seminole Community Library, 9200 113th St. N. The presentation, sponsored by Unincorporated Seminole Area Community Association, also will include how property is determined to be "blighted." There will be an opportunity to ask questions. Seminole residents are invited to attend a meeting of Pinellas Trails Inc. at 6:30 p.m. today in Room "A" of the new Largo Library, 120 Central Park Drive. Future monthly meetings are scheduled for Oct. 26 and Nov. 30. Meetings are open to all Pinellas County residents interested in serving on the Pinellas Trail Board, on one of its committees, or helping out at special events. A free business leads and skills development workshop, "Power Problem-Solving: The Master-Mind Breakthrough," will be held at 7:30 a.m. today at St. Petersburg College, Seminole campus, TLC Building, Room 108. A Motown Tribute by Uptown Review will be featured at Music in the Park on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seminole City Park, 7464 Ridge Road. The concert is sponsored by Keller Williams Gulf Coast Realty. The free evening live music concerts will be held on consecutive Friday nights through Oct. 14. Each concert features a different genre of music. Future concerts include:
--Oct. 7: Oldies rock 'n' roll by Ocean Road Band; presented by Lake Seminole Square.
--Oct. 14: Swing and jazz by Lounge Cat; presented by Seminole Lake Rotary Club.

Friday is the deadline for businesses to register for the "trick or treat zone" at Seminole's annual community Halloween trick or treat event Oct. 28. The "Field of Screams" will be held at the Holland G. Magnum Recreation Complex, 9100 113th St. N from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The free trick or treat zone on the soccer fields is limited to the first 30 businesses or groups to register. The zone will feature Halloween-themed booths and tables offering candy to children attending the event. Activities also will include a spook zone interactive play area, Spooky Theater, a haunted trail and a costume contest. For more information, call recreation director Jim Sheets at 391-8345.

The Seminole Recreation Complex is offering members two trips in October:
--Oct. 15: The Bavarian Oktoberfest Folk Festival in Sarasota. The festival features live continuous German entertainment, German food, imported beer, an arts and crafts show, an antique Volkswagen auto show and more. The bus will leave the recreation complex at 10 a.m. and return by 6 p.m. The cost is $27 per person. A recreation membership card is required to participate.
--Oct. 27: Solomon's Castle in Ona Florida. The trip, which will include lunch at Boat in the Moat, leaves at 9 a.m. and returns by 4 p.m. Solomon's Castle was created by Howard Solomon, an international sculptor and artist, out of collected and recycled items. The Boat in the Moat is a replica of a 16th Century Spanish galleon. The trip costs $42 per person and includes the bus trip, entrance fee and lunch. A recreation card is required to participate.

The Seminole Library's Classic Movie Matinee, Born Yesterday, begins at 2 p.m. Thursdays. The movie events include free popcorn and a soft drink. The library is at 9200 113th St. N. For more information, call 394-6905.
Freedom Square will host a Learn 'n Live breakfast Thursday at 9 a.m. in Roskamp Auditorium, 10801 Johnson Blvd. The American Heart Association will present survivors who will share their moving stories. Attendees will learn about the signs of cardiovascular disease and how to become involved with the organization. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP to 398-0229.
Freedom Square also will present The Square Cares: 2005 Caregiver Awards Banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Seminole Recreation Center, 9100 113th St. N. House Rep. Leslie Waters will help honor 30 winning caregivers who have dedicated their lives to care for seniors in Pinellas County, including activity directors, certified nursing assistants, family members, guardians, health care administrators, nurses, physicians, social workers, therapists and volunteers. Saxophonist Stacey Knights will entertain during the cocktail hour. Attire is semiformal. Seats are $20 and are available by calling Kirsten Ireson at 398-0229 by Friday.
