INVERNESS - Chelsea Peterson took three firsts Tuesday as the Lecanto girls stayed undefeated, beating Citrus 100-70 at the Whispering Pines Park pool.
Peterson won the 50 freestyle (31.46), 100 free (1:07.76) and was on the winning 200 freestyle relay team (2:09.97). Lecanto is 5-0, while the Citrus girls fell to 2-3.
Lecanto's Taylor Cooke took two firsts (200 free and 50 free). Citrus's Amie Osterhout won the 200 IM and 100 fly.
"The girls swam their hearts out," Lecanto coach Kelli Abrams said. "Allison Ryan swam the 500 meters for the first time and swam her heart out."
Citrus' boys (5-0) rode Matt Reichenbach to a 95-77 win over Lecanto (4-1). Reichenbach won the 200 free (2:24.88), 100 free (1:05.72) and 200 free relay (1:59.03).
"This was just like every other meet," Peterson said. "Citrus is supposed to be a major rival for us."
Reichenbach was happier about the meet.
"I cut down my time in the 200 by two seconds," Reichenbach said. "This was special. I had a lot of adrenaline flowing."
Citrus coach Matt Bouthillier liked the results.
"This is due to hard work and dedication," he said. "We have strong leadership. Matt is our hardest-working swimmer."
