Top five movies and upcoming releases
By STEVE PERSALL
Published September 29, 2005
Current movies recommended by the Times:
1. Grizzly Man - Timothy Treadwell's life was fascinating, his death by bear mauling was poetic injustice, and Werner Herzog's exploration of each is one of the year's best films.
2. Lord of War - International gunrunner (Nicolas Cage) experiences moral conflict as he sells death in political hot spots around the world. A rare, smart action flick.
3. A History of Violence - A small-town nice guy (Viggo Mortensen) may also be a cold-blooded mob killer. David Cronenberg's film is more about identity than mayhem.
4. Serenity - Joss Whedon's failed TV series Firefly becomes a satisfying sci-fi experience on the big screen, where space cowboys have more room to roam.
5. Tim Burton's Corpse Bride - The filmmaker rebounds from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with wonderful stop-motion animation, a nightmare before Halloween.
