Notebook: Cambridge students to hold garage sale

TAMPA - Students from the Cambridge School will hold a garage sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Seminole Presbyterian Church, 6101 N Habana Ave. All proceeds will benefit ministries assisting Hurricane Katrina victims.

Students, parents and community members are encouraged to bring items to sell, including clothing, toys, games and shoes, to the church vestibule after school today or before the sale Saturday. The TCS Key Club will also be accepting monetary donations.

Hyde Park church to celebrate Communion

HYDE PARK NORTH - Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W Platt St., celebrates World Communion Sunday on Sunday. Roland Rink of South Africa will speak at the church's services at 8:30, 9:30 and 11 a.m. Rink is the coordinator of Africa Upper Room Ministries, a global ministry that provides a daily devotional guide and other publications and programs.

Moonlight Garden Circle offers shade techniques

BAYSHORE GARDENS - The Moonlight Garden Circle presents a free program "Shade Gardening in Florida" at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Tampa Garden Club, 2629 Bayshore Blvd. Speaker Lucy Hoyt will discuss gardening in the shade.

Mayor's Youth Corps accepts applications

TAMPA - The Mayor's Youth Corps is accepting nominations and applications through Oct. 14 for the 2006 team. All public and private high schools in Tampa can submit nominations. Applications are available in school guidance offices.

Members of the Youth Corps Advisory Committee and local high school students will review the applications for acceptance into the program. Youth Corps activities include team building, leadership development, community service, open discussion forums with the mayor, and the production of a monthly youth-focused television show, From the Corps, which airs on CTTV-Ch. 15.

Cancer support group set to meet Tuesday

DOWNTOWN - Circle of Joy, a breast cancer support group, holds its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday on the second floor of the John F. Germany Public Library, 900 N Ashley Drive. Learn about resources, treatment, financial assistance and physical fitness, and meet with breast cancer patients.
