Police, prosecutors weigh charges against Moss

By wire services
Published October 1, 2005

British government prosecutors are advising police in their investigation of British supermodel Kate Moss' cocaine use, the Crown Prosecution Service said Friday.

Scotland Yard sent case papers to prosecutors, asking for advice on whether there was enough evidence or sufficient public interest to charge Moss, said Russell Hayes, a spokesman with the Crown Prosecution Service. He said it was routine for police to ask for advice in such a case.

Without evidence, however, it is unlikely Moss will be charged.

Photos of Moss, 31, apparently snorting cocaine in a London music studio were published in the Daily Mirror tabloid earlier this month. She has since lost contracts with H&M, Burberry and Chanel.

London's police generally investigate drug dealers rather than users, but Ian Blair, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, earlier said police would consider "the impact of this kind of behavior on impressionable young people."

Moss, who reportedly checked into The Meadows Clinic in Arizona according to British news reports, issued an apology last week, taking "full responsibility for my actions."

Gretchen Wilson advised by doctor to take vocal rest

Gretchen Wilson postponed a concert in Huntsville, Ala., and canceled another in Perry, Ga., after her doctor advised her to rest her voice.

"There is nothing urgent about her condition," said her publicist Michele Schweitzer. "She has been working nonstop for 15 months and this is the best time for her to take a rest."

The Huntsville show has been moved from Oct. 7 to Dec. 17, and the Perry concert has been canceled with the hope of rescheduling in 2006.

Wilson, whose hits include Redneck Woman and When I Think About Cheating, is scheduled to begin "The Revolution Tour" with Big & Rich and the Muzik Mafia on Nov. 4 in Houston.

Theron gets star on Hollywood walk of fame

Oscar winner Charlize Theron's career came full circle Thursday when she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame only blocks from where she was first "discovered."

"I had big dreams when I came here, but this is an incredibly amazing gift. ... Two cherries on top of the cake," Theron told a cheering crowd at the star's unveiling.

Surrounded by family and friends from her native South Africa, Theron recounted how at 18 an agent found her in line at a bank on Hollywood Boulevard. Her mother had pushed the tall, beautiful star to move to Los Angeles to pursue film acting.

Initially a model, and then a ballerina, Theron danced for New York's Joffrey Ballet before rising through the ranks in Hollywood.

"She is a movie star in a classic sense," said Niki Caro, director of Theron's upcoming movie North County.

Theron, 30, began her film career as James Spader's love interest in 1996's "2 Days in the Valley before starring in such movies as >The Cider House Rules , The Italian Job and Woody Allen's >Celebrity.

But it was her frightening portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in 2003's Monster that cemented her status and earned her an Oscar and Golden Globe award. Theron gained weight and wore false teeth for the role.

In North County , Theron plays an activist miner. She plays a black-haired assassin in the upcoming sci-fi thriller> Aeon Flux.
