LARGO - A Largo man died Thursday night blocks from his home while driving to pick up dinner, said Largo police Officer Quentin Collamore. Carl Riggs Jr., 86, was driving his 1995 Mercury Mystique wes t on Forest Parkway about 4:50 p.m. and tried to turn left going south on Keene Road when he was hit by a 1992 Plymouth Sundance headed north on Keene, Collamore said. Riggs died at the scene. The driver of the Plymouth, Lisa La Pierre, 50, of Largo, was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, where she was listed in serious condition Friday afternoon. There is a stop sign on Forest Parkway at the intersection, Largo patrol Capt. Glen Smith said. La Pierre was going at least 45 mph, the speed limit for the area, he said, and there was no evidence that alcohol or excessive speed played a role in the accident.
