For Springstead's volleyball team, the Sept.27 match may be one the Eagles can't forget.

Springstead upset area power Central 25-21, 26-24, 27-25. Springstead's Brooke Seeman had 13 kills and 11 blocks.

Katrina Cook started serving when Central was leading 21-15 in the first game. Cook then served up 10 straight points to give the Eagles the win. Cook had 27 points for the match. She ended the third game with an ace.

"Everybody did their job that game," said coach Jessica Allnutt . " "Abbey Serrena had five blocks, seven kills plus two aces. "Finally, they (Springstead's girls) started believing in themselves."

Tuesday, the Eagles lost to Hudson in four games. Pasco also took the Eagles in four games Thursday. Springstead is now 5-8 overall for the season. They are 3-7 in Class 4A, District 7. They are now 1-4 in the Hernando County Athletic Conference.

NATURE COAST TECH: The Sharks split two matches recently. Nature Coast Tech beat Pasco Tuesday 25-21, 18-25, 25-23, 25-23.

Ilieana Santos had 13 kills. Lauren Wajerski had 11 assists. Randy Roppolo had nine service points and four aces. Kaitlin Wadsworth had nine service points and three aces. The second game was strange.

"The first and last games, we were expecting," assistant coach Aixa Crespo said. "Our setter was not getting the ball where she was supposed to get it in the second game. Everything went back to normal in the third and fourth games."

Nature Coast is 7-9 overall, 6-5 in district and 1-3 in conference. NCT lost to Hernando on Sept.22, 25-16, 16-25, 16-25, 25-15, 15-12. Santos had 20 kills. Wajerski had 21 assists and 12 service points.

CENTRAL: The Bears beat visiting district foe Ridgewood on Wednesday 18-25, 25-23, 25-19, 27-25 and is 8-6, 4-2 in district and 3-1 in the county. Nikki Weaver had 13 kills against Ridgewood.

"We spread it out pretty well," coach Vicki Weaver said. Mackenzie Roberts , Kristen Wimer and Dana Perreira each had five kills. Noemi Rivera had six kills, 26 assists, 14 service points and seven aces.

Health was a factor when Springstead upset the Bears; two Bears played sick. "Springstead played great," Weaver said. "I didn't know the girls were sick until afterwards."

HERNANDO CHRISTIAN: The Lions have problems. Hernando Christian beat Bishop McLaughlin 25-16, 25-20, 25-22 Tuesday night. Dorothy Mangracina had three kills.

"We played lousy," coach Sue Murphy said. "I think they were just not up for the game."

HCA lost to Seffner Academy 25-22, 25-15, 25-9. Mary Ellen Langley had eight service points and two aces. Courtney Oxendine and Kasey Moneyhan had four kills apiece.
