Line break brings boil-water notice to Temple Terrace

TEMPLE TERRACE - Verizon contractors installing fiber-optic lines broke a 6-inch water main Wednesday afternoon, causing health officials to issue a "boil water" notice to some residents.
About 2 p.m., contractors hit the water main along Temple Park Drive near Baywood Drive, said Temple Terrace spokeswoman Paula MacDonald.
Verizon spokesman Bob Elek said the cause of the break remained unclear.
"Obviously, it's not a good thing to have happen, and we'll have to take some time to make sure it's addressed accordingly," he said.
The accident shouldn't delay the work, Elek said.
MacDonald said the break affects water pressure at as many as 500 homes. Those who should boil their water will receive a notice on their door. MacDonald said the need to boil water usually lasts for 72 hours until the system is flushed and full water pressure returned.
This year, Verizon Communications reached a 15-year franchise agreement with Temple Terrace to launch a pay TV service. Contractors have worked since then installing fiber-optic lines that will deliver the signals to customers.
Verizon expects to have 90 percent of the fiber-optic network in Temple Terrace completed by the end of the year.
