  • For their own good

Hot Tickets: Public views about public art

By LENNIE BENNETT
Published October 6, 2005

More than any other art, public art belongs to us. We often think of it as outdoor art, but enter almost any building owned by the city or county and you will find examples of it there, too. And we're fortunate that every community in the Tampa Bay area has public arts programs.

"Art in the Public Realm: A Dialogue" is a free forum at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday. Panel discussions will cover lots of current issues surrounding public art. Among the featured speakers is Audrey Flack, a prominent international artist who created the sculpture Bella Appolonia, above, for the City of Tampa's public art program, along with other artists, academicians and arts writers. Come for the morning or afternoon sessions or stay for both. The event could open your eyes a little wider.
