Top five movies and upcoming releases
By STEVE PERSALL
Published October 6, 2005
Current movies recommended by the Times:
1. Grizzly Man - Timothy Treadwell's life was fascinating, his death by bear mauling was poetic injustice, and Werner Herzog's exploration of each makes this one of the year's best films.
2. Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit - Nick Park already won two Academy Awards for short films starring these wonderful characters. Now he's a candidate for a third in the feature length animation category.
3. In Her Shoes - Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette are combative sisters in a smartly written, well acted example of the "chick flick" genre.
4. A History of Violence - A small-town nice guy (Viggo Mortensen) may also be a cold-blooded mob killer. David Cronenberg's film is more about identity than mayhem.
5. Proof - The Tony- and Pulitzer-winning story doesn't always make a smooth transition to the screen, but Gwyneth Paltrow and Hope Davis shine in this story of math and madness.
