TONIGHT'S GAMES
All 7:30 p.m.
PASCO (1-5) AT WESLEY CHAPEL (2-4) WHERE: Wildcats Stadium
SERIES: Wesley Chapel leads 4-2.
NEED TO KNOW: Wesley Chapel is reeling after falling to Gaither 16-15 on a last-second field goal and losing two of its top players. Vince Chalecki is done for the season with a knee injury. And Josh Winfrey earned an automatic suspension after he was ejected against Gaither. Pasco has enjoyed a quiet week after a turbulent start to its season. The Pirates hope to continue bringing freshman quarterback Josh Johnson along. The Pirates believe a win against their rival could spark a resurgence.
FRANK PASTOR'S PICK: Wesley Chapel
IZZY GOULD'S PICK: Wesley Chapel
STEVE LEE'S PICK: Pasco
MITCHELL (2-4) AT HUDSON (5-1) WHERE: Cobra Stadium
SERIES: Mitchell leads 3-1.
NEED TO KNOW: Mitchell has won the past three in this series, a streak that appears in jeopardy. The Mustangs have dropped their past three including a stunning 29-28 loss to Gulf on Sept. 23 in the final seconds. Still, Mitchell has two of the county's statistical leaders in quarterback Tate Humphrey (105 carries, 670 yards) and receiver D.J. Crosby (20 catches, 268 yards). The Mustangs face a powerful Hudson team, winner of two straight. The Cobras are led by senior Kyle Hatcher, who has 901 yards and eight touchdowns passing.
FRANK PASTOR'S PICK: Hudson
IZZY GOULD'S PICK: Hudson
STEVE LEE'S PICK: Hudson
RIDGEWOOD (1-5) AT GULF (3-2) WHERE: W.D. "Des" Little Stadium.
SERIES: Gulf leads 14-6.
NEED TO KNOW: The schedule-maker couldn't have been more cruel to Ridgewood. The Rams handed the Bucs their lone loss last year, and Gulf is eager to make someone pay after losing its district opener. Ridgewood punter C.J. Hnilica, who had a school-record 86-yarder against Hudson, has a 42.4 average and Byronell Arline has rushed for 100 yards in five of six games. But the Rams are hard-pressed to match a strong offense led by Alton Voss (731 yards passing, 583 rushing) and Anthony Jackson (283 yards rushing, 218 receiving).
FRANK PASTOR'S PICK: Gulf
IZZY GOULD'S PICK: Gulf
STEVE LEE'S PICK: Gulf
RIVER RIDGE (0-5) AT LAND O'LAKES (5-0) WHERE: Gator Stadium.
SERIES: Land O'Lakes leads 11-3.
NEED TO KNOW: Rivals in the 1990s, these two split their first six games before Land O'Lakes won eight straight. Joe Weatherford is the county's first 1,000-yard passer with Develin Robinson and Caz Piurowski combining for 38 catches and 824 yards. This could be a game for all three to pad their statistics. It could be a long night for the Royal Knights, who have scored just 27 points and struggled in all phases.
FRANK PASTOR'S PICK: Land O'Lakes
IZZY GOULD'S PICK: Land O' Lakes
STEVE LEE'S PICK: Land O'Lakes
BISHOP McLAUGHLIN (0-4) AT CANTERBURY (0-5) WHERE: Canterbury
SERIES: First meeting
NEED TO KNOW: Bishop McLaughlin shelved plans to reschedule its opener against Jacksonville Trinity Christian after Canterbury asked to play during the Hurricanes' bye week. Neither team has won but Canterbury has scored 80 points compared to Bishop McLaughlin's seven. Given time to throw, Hurricanes quarterback Coleman Hengesbach has shown improvement. Chris Redfield has done a nice job receiving and returning punts. Todd LoCascio replaced center Paul Padilla, who is expected to miss at least three more weeks with a deep knee bruise. Bishop McLaughlin starts three freshmen - cornerback Ryan Beeble, safety Nick Hellman and nose tackle Michael Thurman - on defense.
FRANK PASTOR'S PICK: Canterbury
IZZY GOULD'S PICK: Canterbury
STEVE LEE'S PICK: Canterbury
