NEW YORK - Police said they think a body recovered at a Pennsylvania landfill Thursday is that of the mother of a 4-year-old girl who was found abandoned and barefoot on a city street after dark.
A woman's corpse - unclothed and wrapped in black plastic bags - was found under 18 feet of trash Thursday afternoon in a landfill in Vintondale, Pa., said police spokesman Paul Browne.
The body was not positively identified, but investigators think it is that of Monica Lozada-Rivadineira, Browne said.
Police had been searching for the Bolivian-born woman since Sept. 25, when her daughter, Valery Belen Saavedra Lozada, was found wandering in the middle of the night in Queens.
Missing teen's mom says remains "likely my baby'
RICHMOND, Va. - The mother of a missing college freshman said Thursday she thinks a body found in woods is her daughter, who was last seen alive at her school dorm Sept. 5.
"I'm sure you can imagine the shock and horror that I feel knowing that the body found is most likely my baby," said the teen's mother, Janet Pelasara.
Taylor Marie Behl, 17, left her Virginia Commonwealth University dorm last month with her mobile phone, a small amount of cash, a student ID and her car keys. She told her roommate she would be back in a few hours.
