Koleduk's debut season is sterling

Sam Koleduk , one of the county's preeminent high school and college soccer players, has had a recordbreaking season in his first stint as a college coach. And three players he coached at Gulf have contributed.
Koleduk, who starred at Gulf and Saint Leo before coaching Gulf, is in his first year coaching Cincinnati Christian. He figured with Gulf recruits Drew Roberts , Adam Stosur and Chris Sabetti that the Eagles would improve on last season's 10-8-2 mark.
How's this for improvement: a school-record 15 wins, including the team's first unbeaten mark in the Mideast Region of the National Christian College Athletic Association. The Eagles are 15-1 overall, 8-0 in the region.
"We're kicking some butt," said Koleduk, the career goal-scoring leader at Saint Leo (77) and second at Gulf (84). Hopefully, we'll make it out of regionals and be down at nationals."
The NCCAA championships are scheduled for Nov. 3-5 in Kissimmee.
Roberts and Sabetti are 2003 Gulf graduates, and Stosur graduated from there in 2002. Roberts leads Cincinnati Christian with a school-record 40 goals and Stosur has the school mark for assists with 26.
Roberts, an all-state player in 2003, also has 17 assists and Stosur has 11 goals.
In a limited role, Sabetti has a goal and four assists.
"It's just incredible to see them before at a college level," Koleduk said.
In Saturday's 4-1 win over Appalachian Bible, Roberts scored a goal and Stosur had two assists.
HEADY WIN: A header by Jane Seedhouse in the 87th minute lifted the Saint Leo women's soccer team over Florida Tech 3-2 on Sunday.
Seedhouse's third goal of the season came off a corner kick from Kristin Stephens .
Saint Leo scoring leader Jennifer O'Connor netted her seventh and eighth goals against Florida Tech, which got two assists from former Land O'Lakes sweeper Tara Eugenides .
HAD A BALL: Three former Saint Leo baseball players - pitchers Daniel Hawkins and David Koons , and slugger Trevor Hall - had productive minor-league seasons.
Hawkins, a 2005 Saint Leo graduate, signed with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in May. Playing for Orem (Utah) in the rookie level Pioneer League, the 6-foot-4 right-hander went 5-2 with a 3.70 ERA and earned a win with a one-hitter in the Southern Division championship game.
Koons, a Lions closer and 27th-round draft pick of the New York Mets in June, pitched for Kingsport (Tenn.) in the rookie Appalachian League. The right-hander went 4-2 with a 3.46 ERA, striking out 25 and walking nine in 39 innings.
Hall, a 2002 graduate, led the Frontier League in extra-base hits with 51. Playing for the Florence (Ky.) Freedom, the first baseman hit .316 with 23 home runs and 79 RBIs.
