Dunedin club for children meets to explore nature

The Investigators of Nature kids club meets Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m. The club for children ages 6 to 12 explores nature through hikes and hands-on projects. Cost is $1 with Dunedin rec card, $2 without. Call 298-3271.

Forum on long-term care scheduled for Wednesday

Mid and South Pinellas Long-Term Care Ombudsman Council and Florida Silver-Haired Legislature, Area 5, will host a public forum from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Digital Auditorium, St. Petersburg College Seminole Campus, 9200 113th St. N. The event will cover issues ranging from long-term care resident privacy and visitation rights to decisionmaking and grievance processes in long-term care settings. Speakers include state Rep. Frank Farkas, elder advocate and state Long-term care ombudsman Brian Lee and LuAnne Reese, a local nursing home director of planning and advocacy with Bon Secours Maria Manor. Donate used cell phones for emergency use

Unused cell phones can be lifesavers for seniors. The Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas, Inc. and its Senior Victim Advocate Program are collecting used cell phones to distribute as 9-1-1 emergency or "Safety Phones" to seniors who are at risk. The cell phones are free to seniors and can only be used to access 9-1-1 in case of an emergency.

The agency has added two more distribution and collection sites for the Senior Safety Phone Project in Pinellas County, the Mainlands on U.S. 19 and Mainlands Boulevard in Pinellas Park, 217-0967, and the Senior Resource and Referral Center at 1281 Court St. in Clearwater, 442-7772. For information about the Senior Safety Phone Project or other distribution and collection sites call (727) 570-9696, ext. 279.

Transit committee has several openings

The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority has several openings on its Transit Advisory Committee. This group meets once a month at its headquarters at 14840 49th St. in Clearwater.

The committee of transit users and interested citizens provide input to the PSTA board of directors and staff regarding transit service, fares and infrastructure improvements.

Such input is intended to increase ridership and improve service for passengers. To apply, call 533-4301.

Earhart fellowships available for women

The Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowships are offered annually to women for graduate study in aerospace-related science and aerospace-related engineering. Miracle on Wheels offers power wheelchairs

Miracle on Wheels makes available electric power wheelchairs to nonambulatory people 65 years or older and the permanently disabled of any age if they qualify. Those who qualify must be able to operate a joystick controller on the armrest and understand the basic instructions. Call 1-800-749-8778.

Bayside Choir slates auditions

Bayside Choir, a community nonprofit arts organization, is holding auditions at the Piano Company, 1710 N Hercules, Suite 112, Clearwater. U.S. Submarine Veterans aims for more members

U.S. Submarine Veterans is seeking to expand membership for all local sub vets. The Tang Base, a chapter of U.S. Submarine Veterans, is made up of Navy veterans and active duty personnel who are qualified in submarines. The base supports the local Veterans Administration, provides memorial services and supports the troops both overseas and in-country. Call 734-1787.

Historical Society seeks donations of antiques
