Notebook: 'Salute to Our Troops' is fall festival's theme

FAIR OAKS/MANHATTAN MANOR - Enjoy carnival rides, food and live entertainment at the 42nd annual South Tampa Fall Festival this weekend at St. Patrick Catholic School, 4518 S Manhattan Ave. The festival runs from 1 to 11 p.m. today and Saturday and from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

This year's theme is "A Salute to Our Troops" and will feature performances by local high school ROTCs. Activities for kids include crafts, games and hair braiding. Adults can check out the sports tent and a beer garden, featuring a big screen television showing football throughout the day.

Ride tickets cost $1 each. Food and game tickets cost 50 cents each. Admission is free. For information, call 839-5056 or go to www.stpatricktampa.org/school and click on the festival.

Mayor to speak Tuesday at town hall meeting

CARVER CITY/LINCOLN GARDENS - Mayor Pam Iorio will host a town hall meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson High School, 4401 W Cypress St. Residents are invited to talk about issues pertaining to South Tampa neighborhoods.

The mayor will discuss the city's strategic goals, projects and initiatives. City administrators and department representatives will be available to answer questions. For information, call 274-7835.

Admission just a nickel during Streetcar Fest

TAMPA - Celebrate the third anniversary of the TECO Line Streetcar by riding for 5 cents during Streetcar Fest from 7 a.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday. Early service is provided to accommodate walkers participating in the Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk. Parking is available along the Streetcar line. Colombian group to host benefit dinner Saturday

PALMA CEIA - The Colombian Volunteer Ladies of Tampa Bay will host the 21st annual dinner gala at 7 p.m. Saturday at Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club, 1601 S MacDill Ave. Patsy Feliciano, director of scholarship programs at the University of South Florida, will speak.

University of Tampa offers open house

DOWNTOWN - High school seniors and prospective transfer students can get a preview of the University of Tampa during an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Guests can explore the new student center and visit residence halls, learn about new programs and scholarship opportunities, and attend panels on campus life. Faculty members will be on hand to discuss their courses, and a financial aid representative will conduct an information session.

Museum needs people to become tour leaders

Veteran journalist to give lecture at Reeves Theatre

His column is distributed to more than 400 newspapers.
