NEW PORT RICHEY - Authorities said Thursday that one man died and two others were injured in the crash that tied up traffic Wednesday afternoon on U.S. 19 at Cedar Lane.

A silver 2003 Mitsubishi driven by Edward Kaczenski, 79, was headed north at about 3 p.m. when he crossed the median and struck a southbound 2002 Ford Explorer, according to a New Port Richey police news release. The Explorer was driven by Manuel Gorelick, 82, of Tarpon Springs. Gorelick was taken to Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Kaczenski of Spring Hill was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, where he was in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in the Mitsubishi, Danny Killoran, 66, of Spring Hill also was flown to Bayfront and listed in stable condition. The investigation continued Thursday, and charges are pending its completion, according to the news release.
