Woman injured in crash with bus sues district

By Times Staff Writer

A New Port Richey woman is suing the Pasco County School District for more than $15,000 over injuries she said she sustained after her car collided with a school bus.

Cindy Johnson, 22, was driving east on Ridge Road on Jan. 9, 2004, when a school bus full of children traveling north on Tanglewood Drive turned left into her path, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Bus driver David Kolar, who also is listed as a defendant in the lawsuit, was cited by authorities for failure to yield right of way.

Johnson suffered injuries to her spine, shoulder muscles and knee, attorney Dick Greco said Wednesday. Kolar, 58, who has been driving for the district since April 2003, was disciplined by the school district after the accident.
