Former NFL player Danny Wuerffel will be the featured speaker at Northside Christian School's Annual Fund Kick-Off at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27.

After retiring from the NFL in 2004, Wuerffel is now dedicated to Desire Street Ministries, a faith-based nonprofit organization serving the Desire community in New Orleans, one of the nation's toughest and poorest neighborhoods.

Since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Wuerffel is concentrating on rebuilding.

Northside is committed to partnering with Desire Street Ministries with an emphasis on helping the Desire Street Academy.

Wuerffel played with the New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins. He retired after being inducted into Florida's All Sports Association Hall of Fame.
