TAMPA - A Brandon accountant was jailed Wednesday afternoon amid allegations he possessed more than 100 images of child pornography that were discovered through a lengthy investigation by law enforcement authorities in Indiana and Florida.
Roy Mason, 54, of 2009 Highview Fall Place, is being held without bail in the Orient Road Jail, charged with 102 counts of possessing child pornography. Indiana investigators say Mason could face more charges in that state.
His arrest was the result of a 10-month investigation by Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents, Indiana State Police detectives and Hillsborough sheriff's deputies working as part of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force.
Indiana investigators contacted FDLE agents to report that an Indiana resident had chatted online with a Yahoo user called "krzzlion," later identified as Mason, who said he wanted to have sex with the resident's 11-year-old daughter.
Detectives later observed Mason fondling himself in front of a Web cam, and they say he gave the Indiana resident a phone number that was traced to his Brandon home.
On Feb. 17, authorities seized his home computer and other pornographic materials, according to FDLE spokeswoman Kristen Perezluha FDLE computer analysts found several hundred images and movies of children under 18 engaging in sexual intercourse. Officials with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) compared the images with known child victims, eventually matching 102 of Mason's pornographic pictures and movies to child victims, Perezluha said.
Those matches are the basis for the counts filed against Mason this week.
County jail records show that Mason, listed as an accountant for Graybar Electric, was arrested in April on a fugitive warrant out of Indiana for child solicitation charges.
