TAMPA - The prosecution will not seek the death penalty for the two suspects accused of murdering Tampa businessman Jeffrey Dampier Jr. in July, prosecutor Jalal Harb announced in court Wednesday.

Nathaniel Jackson and Dampier's sister-in-law, Victoria Jackson, are accused of kidnapping the former Illinois lottery winner, robbing him of thousands of dollars, beating him and shooting him to death. Both suspects have entered not guilty pleas.

The Jacksons have different attorneys but will be tried together. A pretrial conference is set for Jan. 5, with the trial beginning Jan. 9.
