Eckerd College evacuates campus

ST. PETERSBURG - Eckerd College has begun evacuating the campus at 4200 54th Avenue S. Classes will end by 2:50 p.m.; students will evacuate residence halls by 4:30 p.m.; and offices will close at 5 p.m. The liberal-arts college will be closed starting Friday and no one will be permitted on campus. All weekend activities have been postponed or canceled. The college, which serves 1,684 students, will provide weekend updates on its Web site and voicemail systems.
